The word "meditation" means so many things to different people. In it's most basic definition, to meditate means to consciously choose to enter into a state of mind and being in which you are simply being with your Self and therefore with All that Is.
I am Lynn Louise Wonders and I've been practicing and teaching meditation for 23+ years. I explain to my students that the most important part is to approach your meditation with a lot of reverence and deep respect for all of Nature - Nature within and Nature all around you everywhere. This sets the mind and invites an integration of your spirit/essence to come together with mind and body in the present moment.
Meditation is not intellectual contemplation rather entering into a state of surrender to what IS and simply allowing, gently observing and just being. This practice has recently been proven by hard science to literally change the brain in wonderful ways. The amygdala (alarm center of brain) shrinks and pre-frontal cortex grows gray matter among other wonderful results creating an ability for us to RESPOND calmly rather than REACT when tough stuff arises in daily life.
It is important to learn how to work with our mind, breath and body in a very simple way first. Mindfulness and meditation is more than just sitting. When I teach people about meditation, I first provide a foundation to the simple but profound practice which can bring lasting change to your perspective and to your life. These are some of the benefits you may realize from learning to practice mindfulness and meditation.
- Fully experience everyday living by being fully present in the moment
- Reduce stress by responding creatively rather than reacting mindlessly
- Bring greater clarity and understanding to the smallest (and biggest) tasks
- Reestablish full connection with your physical body and breath
- Reduce addictive or self-destructive behavior patterns
- Develop a strong daily meditation practice
Mindfulness and meditation can help you discover what it’s like to see the world you actually have, not the one you think you are missing, and to live the life that is yours to live in its fullness, moment by moment and day by day.
Meditation classes are not psychotherapy and are for educational purposes only.
